Belinda Hockett
started her dance career in 1983 as a trainee at a Fred Astaire
Dance Studio in Tampa, FL. After completing her training her love
of ballroom dancing and an opportunity to grow in her career led her
to move to another Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Inverness, FL.
Purchasing the studio in 1987 she continued to teach many students
adding to the quality of their lives. Belinda won several “Freddy
Awards” as a top female instructor in the Fred Astaire
Organization. As a competitor, she competed in Ballroom and Country
Western competitions both professionally and with students. From
1992 through 1995 she won numerous awards for country dancing and
finished all in the top three including two World Championship
Competitions. Very active in the community, Belinda organized,
choreographed and produced dance production showcases with her
students, performing in nursing homes, civic and charity events
around Citrus County. The Citrus County Chamber awarded her the
“Outstanding Individual” award in 1994 for her charity and community
work.
After moving to Plano, TX in 2000 to start a family with her
husband, her priority was raising her 3 small children. Teaching
dance was still very much in her heart and she began teaching Line
Dance at the Plano Senior Center soon after moving to Texas and
still teaches there today. In 2003 she began teaching for HPISD
“Academy of Lifelong Learning” couples ballroom and country dance.
In addition she has taught for Wylie ISD continuing education, City
of Sachse and Frisco Senior Center. A specialty of Belinda’s is
teaching wedding couples and choreographing dances for weddings.
Majestic Ballroom and Dance Center was a dream back in the summer of
2007 and has become a reality in the summer of 2008. With the
encouragement and support of her husband, they opened Majestic
Ballroom and Dance Center in their community, Wylie, TX. Providing
instruction to seniors, adults, wedding couples, father/daughter
dances children and teens. |
